Stillwater - Mike's releated

Postby massimo » Tue Aug 26, 2008 7:29 am

Guys, do you remember the fictional band Stillwater that play in the Almost Famous movie??
I always read that there's a Directors Cut DVD that contains also a CD with the Stillwater's show (Loa Angeles?) and that the lead guitar was recorded by Mike.
Do you own this special ed. DVD? Could you give me some more info? Hey you, Italian collector, does in Italy was published with a PINK cover?
Thanks

Ok after some search.... the DVD was also published as "Director's cut" (black cover), the contains 2 DVD (normal movie, Uncat movie with more scene) and 1CD (Stillwater show in San Diego), in Italy was also release this release but with some difference i.e. without the audio CD.
So to own the cd I have to buy the DVD that is only in English!

I have this cd... it did in fact come with the Director's Cut/Untitled Bootleg (so they called it) version of the movie. It's not a Stillwater show. It's a 6-song, studio recorded EP of Stillwater songs that feature Mike and Peter Frampton (as well as some other musicians whose names escape me). I do not believe Mike is playing lead on all the tracks.

Also, there was ONE actual Stillwater show. It was crew/friends only (maybe a small bit of public?) but the band on stage was made up of the actors, not the musicians on the EP.

I have the CD too. I'm already ripping it. Just tell me where to upload it. And I research some information:

Paragraph
In addition, Crowe and Wilson collaborated pseudonymously to write several of the original songs performed by Stillwater in the movie, including "Fever Dog," and "Love Thing," while Wilson's sister, Ann, joined the songwriting team on "Chance Upon You." Peter Frampton also contributed to Stillwater's "discography," co-writing the songs "Hour of Need" and "You Had to Be There."

Mike McCready ... musician: Stillwater music

Paragraph
In a Sep 2001 HR article, Crowe described “Stillwater” as an amalgam of the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Eagles, Led Zeppelin and The Who. In an Aug 2000 LAT article, Crowe stated that the rivalry between the film’s “Russell Hammond” and “Jeff Bebe” was based on the relationship between Led Zeppelin lead singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page. Most of the fifty songs heard in the film are vintage 1970s tunes. According to an Oct 2000 LAT article, rights and permissions added $3.5 million to the film’s budget. However, the handful of songs performed by Stillwater were written for the film and, according to an Aug 2000 LAT article, performed for the recording by Marti Fredericksen, Mike McCready and Ben Smith on vocals, lead guitar and drums, respectively. Legendary rock musician Peter Frampton, who served as the film’s technical advisor and appeared in a small role, wrote two of the Stillwater songs with Wayne Kirkpatrick and Gordon Kennedy. Crowe, with his wife Nancy Wilson and her sister Ann, both members of the rock group “Heart,” wrote other songs performed by Stillwater, but are credited onscreen under the pseudonym, Hammond and Bebe, the characters in the film.
