Riot Act Vinyl

I see in the discography under Riot Act there is only one listed - The EU version 510000 1.

I have E2 86825 (on spine) engraved 87056. I presume this is the US pressing - but surely one of you would have that? I am working on getting some good photos of the markings on both this and binaural so you can see what I"m talking about (in other words not have to listen to my ramblings on about a TL in a C!).

Does this mean I can post my Riot Act on there? ;) Ha ha can you tell I really want to get something of mine on that board?! Doesn't look like you guys have left me much - I'm spending far too much time drooling over all of your's beautiful vinyl...

I'm off to Nelson, south island of NZ. sun is shining. Anyone wanna come?! Just for 2 days. :)

whatever you are doing, make it good!

Thanks! When you get around to it, I'd be so keen to hear your Binaural markings, to see if yours has the same wierd markings as mine.

Also, why does my Riot Act have the crossed out markings? any info or possible reasons appreciated. just an error I guess, but surely not every single record is hand engraved? Or are they? questions questions hope you guys don't mind

I am wondering how many copies of each album were pressed. I am going on a mission to try and find out - so if anyone knows make sure you tell me before I start the search!

I checked my copies of Binaural and Riot Act and they do have the same weird markings. Here is an excerpt from wikipedia that may shed some light on these etchings:

Recording
For the first several decades of disc record manufacturing, sound was recorded directly on to the master disc (also called the matrix, sometimes just the master) at the recording studio. From about 1950 on (earlier for some large record companies, later for some small ones) it became usual to have the performance first recorded on audio tape, which could then be processed and/or edited, and then dubbed on to the master disc.
A record cutter would engrave the grooves into the master disc. Early versions of these master discs were soft wax, and later a harder lacquer was used.
The mastering process was originally something of an art as the operator had to manually allow for the changes in sound which affected how wide the space for the groove needed to be on each rotation. Sometimes the engineer would sign his work, or leave humorous or cryptic comments in the lead-out groove area, where it was normal to scratch or stamp identifying codes to distinguish each master.

Thanks bu$hleaguer! Most informative. A slightly disappointed that my vinyls aren't like rare misprints or anything... :) a girl can dream, like I was sure for a while they were a band members original copy or something :P but at least they are mine! And I love them!!

Something interesting happened just now, they guy from my local record shop called and said he can order me Vitalogy on vinyl! Quite interesting timing, as I've been thinking a lot about PJ vinyl over the last weeks (as you will know). I'd love to have a nice new copy of Vitalogy! I have learnt that I will not believe it till I see it now, though.

thanks again for all your kind replies

My Riot Act also has the "XSS" crossed out with a few lines.
"I'll ride the wave...where it takes me..."

I believe, the 12" Even Flow vinyl has "Pearl Jam" etched in there.
