A Challenging Question. No Really, I’m Serious.

Postby dagobah » Mon Apr 23, 2012 11:54 am

According to a detailed post on a message board at guitars101.com, it states that Pearl Jam played the track Nothing As It Seems at Neil Young’s Bridge School Benefit Concerts (in Mountain View, California) on two separate performances:
The first performance was on October 31, 1999
The second performance was on October 21, 2001

The iTunes Store (US) has seven compilations of live tracks from the numerous Neil Young Bridge School Benefit Concerts that have taken place since the mid-to-late 1980s. The $59.94 iTunes compilation that is titled The Bridge School Collection Vol. 1 (Live) includes a total of 80 tracks plus a digital booklet. Those 80 tracks are divided into 6 groups on the screen. The 4th group includes:
track 13 - Nothing As It Seems (live)

Challenging Question: Which performance, October 31, 1999 or October 21, 2001, did the above version of Nothing As It Seems (iTunes track 13) come from?

I have tried to figured this out using a variety of searches on Google, but I have failed. Can anyone help me figure this out? I realize it’s not critically important. It’s just that I try to document all my live Pearl Jam tracks by date.

It's from October 31, 1999.

I have the The Bridge School Collection, Vol. 1 (Live) iTunes m4a set. 713mb 80 track download.

Track 4-13 Nothing As It Seems (Live) 11.3mb is from '99. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAE9XM4eepQ

Not challenging cause the '01, Mike's is playing on the acoustic guitar, while in '99 he's playing electric guitar on the song.

Wow, that's interesting. I didn't know these could be found on YouTube. I tried searching setlists and tracklists on Google. I had never given thought to YouTube as a resource. I enjoyed watching them. Thanks for providing the links. I definitely prefer the 1999 version with electric guitar.

Well, it sure was a challenge for me . . . . one at which I failed. It sure is nice to have this forum as a resource. :D

Today (April 4, 2013), I ask a question concerning the 2-CD compilation titled The Bridge School Concerts 25th Anniversary Edition released way back on October 24, 2011.

On this 2-CD compilation, Pearl Jam performs an acoustic version of Better Man. From which of the following Bridge School Benefit Concerts was it performed at? I am pretty sure (but not 100%) the following is a list of Bridge School Benefit Concerts at which Pearl Jam performed the track titled Better Man:

October 31, 1999
October 20, 2001
October 26, 2003
October 21, 2006
October 22, 2006
October 23, 2010

I used the website www.setlist.fm to help me get the above info. As mentioned in my first post, I try to figure these things out, but I have failed again. Can someone help me out with this new question?

Basing on the sample from amazon.com :
http://www.amazon.com/Bridge-School-Con ... ol+benefit

And streaming the audience recording being uploaded in pearljambootlegs.org:

http://www.pearljambootlegs.org/modules ... R&ext.html

Its the same "rearranged" Better Man from 23 October 2010 Bridge School Benefit show.:)

Me again.

Today (April 5), I have a question concerning live performances by Pearl Jam of the following tracks:
Strangest Tribe
Whale Song
Other Side

I have been unable to determine if Pearl Jam has ever performed Strangest Tribe or Whale Song live?

From my understanding, Pearl Jam did perform Other Side at the October 24, 2010 Bridge School Benefit Concert (Day 2).

Here’s my question today: How am I able to acquire an MP3 of Pearl Jam performing of any of these tracks live? I am willing to pay for these MP3s so that Pearl Jam gets compensated.

No problemo, somehow your question helped me research about what BetterMan version is in that cd.:) So I thank you too!

You can check how many times those three songs were played here:

http://pearljam.com/music

The whole October 24, 2010 Bridge School Benefit Concert (Day 2) in mp3 (from pearljambootlegs.org):

copy and paste this link in your browser (autodownloads the zip file):
http://www.pearljambootlegs.org/modules ... R&ext.html

Its an audience recording, but I can rate it as A-. Enjoy!

bty1972 . . . . . thank you for telling me about the part of Pearl Jam’s website that shows how many times a song has been played. I had no idea this part of the website existed. Also, thank you for introducing me to the website with Pearl Jam bootlegs. I was not aware of it. I downloaded the October 24, 2010 Bridge School Concert bootleg. In addition to the track Other Side, I did not have a live version of Drifting so that is cool to acquire, too. I also liked the acoustic live version of Black. I look forward to exploring more of the bootlegs from this website. I have already bought many directly from Pearl Jam, but the ones they offer sometimes don’t have the songs I’m looking for.

bty1972 . . . . . again . . . . . I am very grateful for your quick response, for your info, and for the website info. And I very much appreciate the existence of this forum. Thank you everybody! :D
