Anyone use Discogs.com to Catalog their Collection?

Anyone use Discogs.com to Catalog their Collection?

Postby southp » Wed Sep 15, 2010 6:51 pm

I just discovered discogs.com catalog function and thought it was a great way to keep track of my vinyl collection (Pearl Jam and other artists). This helps when you're trying to remember what albums you're still looking for vs. what you already own. Also for determining where you have doubles, etc.

Anyone else using it? Any other cataloging software worth checking out?

some guys here have a personal site from their collection..check the private collection thread..
but i think we all use our immense database to have a quick idea about what we have and what we miss..
Mention this to me
Mention something, mention anything

I use a simple and very flawed database on my phone but I must soon change this

Would love a website but wouldn't know where to start

I always hope one day we can incorporate an own collection option here like expressobeans - but I understand this will not be easy

Agreed, if there was a "my collection" feature here it would be amazing. Consider the trading/selling options because you would always know who has what available.

Also recently discovered discogs and just created an account to start a database of our cd collection, starting with pearl jam of course. :)

Now obviously the database is incomplete and from what I can tell also contains unofficial releases, so maybe it's not so convenient after all. Maybe I'll just have to wait until this feature is added here ... :)

The thing that's nice about Discogs if you can catalog all different artists. Most of us collect outside of PJ so it's nice to have it all in one place. If a particular item isn't listen on Discogs you can just add it yourself. I've done that for a few things.

I Love Discogs, Its coming in Very Handy as I am Entering my Entire colection of CD's for a Few reasons, one is because I want to have a solid list of allthe CD's I own, Two is because I got a Job in Insurance, and when you experience a loss your home, they always are asking people to list your CD's, List your Books, List your DVD's, List your Video Games. Now I will have a list. So Once CD's are done, I Start on the Vinyl. I like Discogs because it is all Items Music Related, including DVDs, CDs, Vinyl (I Still call them Records), Cassettes, some 8 Tracks and 78's are on there too. If you have it, you can enter it, its maintained by the users and it includes a marketplace so you can sell the extra copy of Ten you have laying around, and that old Milli Vanilli CD, or your old 45 of the superbowl shuffle, or the classic Curly Shuffle, you get the drift by now. BUt the thing I like the most, Its totally free.
